Cheesy Garlic Drop Biscuits
These might remind you of the biscuits at your favorite seafood chain restaurant! They come together quickly and are fluffy and delicious. Stop what you're doing and make them!

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 cups self rising flour (plus more for dusting)
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 teaspoons garlic powder, divided
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 8 tablespoons vegetable shortening
- 1 cup cold buttermilk
- 3 tablespoons salted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon Italian herb mix (Italian seasoning)
Instructions
- Heat oven to 400°. Add oil to cast iron skillet and put in oven to preheat.
- Combine 2 cups flour, sugar, salt,and 1 1/2 teaspoons of the garlic powder in bowl. Add the shortening and work in with a fork until it is the size of peas, more or less. Mix in the cheese. Make a well and add the buttermilk and stir in. Dough should be sticky but not wet.
- Remove the skillet from the oven. Form dough into balls, flatten to a 2 1/2 inch disc (more or less) and dip into flour. Pat off excess flour and place in skillet.
- Bake biscuits for 25 minutes.
- While baking, melt butter and add the rest of the garlic powder and the herb mix. When biscuits are golden brown, take out and brush with butter mixture.
